Social Casino Vs. Sweepstakes Casino: What Is the Difference?

By Wren Brightstar Social & Sweepstakes Play

Wren compares gold and green paths in a guide to the differences between social and sweepstakes casinos.

Quick Answers

  • Social casino coins are for fun and cannot be redeemed; sweepstakes play can lead to prizes under its rules.
  • Win Bonanza uses Gold Coins (GC) for fun and Sweeps Coins (SC) for sweepstakes play; GC do not turn into SC.
  • An SC prize request must meet our play, account, ID and prize rules.

From Wren’s Navigation Notes

Two Portals with the Same Glow

A while back, I found myself at the Bonanza Gate; two portals stood beside each other and glowed with the same blue light. A visiting crewmate assumed they were interchangeable and started toward the nearest one.

I stopped him before the gate had an opportunity to improve his education.

The first portal opened onto a short local circuit that returned to the station. The second entered a controlled route beyond the sector and required the correct clearance. Their matching lights meant only that both portals were active. They said nothing about where the routes led.

Social casino and sweepstakes casino play can look alike for the same reason. The games may share artwork and features, but the coins serve different purposes and follow different rules. Check the coin label and the route behind it before you choose.

What Do the Two Names Mean?

A social casino usually offers casino-style games for fun. Its play coins cannot be redeemed for prizes.

A sweepstakes casino adds a sweepstakes mode. That mode can lead to prizes when the player and play meet the site’s rules.

A site can have both modes. Win Bonanza does: Gold Coins, or GC, are for fun. Sweeps Coins, or SC, are for sweepstakes play. Other sites may use different names and terms. [1]

The useful question is which mode you have selected. The game artwork alone will not tell you.

Compare the Two Types of Play

The two modes at Win Bonanza
Question Play for fun Sweepstakes play
Which coin? Gold Coins: GC. Sweeps Coins: SC.
Can it lead to a prize? No. GC and GC results cannot be redeemed. SC won through qualifying play may lead to a prize. All prize rules apply.
Where do I read the coin rules? Our Terms explain GC. Our Sweepstakes Rules explain SC and free entry.
Which player rules apply? Account and access rules. Account and access rules, plus sweepstakes and offer rules.
Are there checks? We may check the account. We may check ID, location, ownership and the prize request.

When you compare another site, use its own rules. A similar name does not mean the same steps or state access.

Start with the Coin Label

GC are for fun. You can buy GC packages, but GC cannot be redeemed. More GC do not become SC. [1]

SC are for sweepstakes play. You cannot buy them directly. Some GC packages include free SC; others do not. Read the offer to see its amount and terms. [1]

Before a game, check the coin label. Do not rely only on its color or remember the last mode you used. If you choose SC, check any rules attached to them.

Our GC and SC guide explains the difference with an example.

How Does Free Entry Fit In?

No purchase is needed to get SC, enter or win at Win Bonanza. A purchase does not improve your chances. [1]

Our handwritten mail entry method may provide 5 SC for a request that meets every rule. This method is called AMOE, short for alternative method of entry. [1]

The mail entry guide explains the paper, handwriting, envelope and account checks. Use the exact statement in section 3.2.4 of our rules.

SC may also come from account bonuses or free bonuses with some GC offers. Each method has its own rules. A daily SC bonus may depend on your SC balance, so check the offer in your account. [1]

Wren’s Field Note

Follow the Route

Back at the Bonanza Gates, I opened the route display and traced both portal paths for my crewmate. Once he could see the local circuit and the controlled route, the matching blue lights stopped being the most important detail.

The lights showed that the portals were ready. The route map showed what each one would do. One indicator could not answer both questions.

Use the same method here. Start with the coin label. Check how you receive those coins, what kind of play they support, and which rules apply afterward.

A familiar screen may get your attention. The route determines where it can lead.

Who Can Use Sweepstakes Play?

You must be at least 18, or the legal adult age that applies to you if it is higher. Use one account with real, current details. You must agree to our Terms and meet our full player rules. [1] [2]

We check your home address and where you are now. Our Sweepstakes Rules exclude 15 U.S. states. Florida has a special prize limit. Use the state guide and live rules, especially before a trip. [1] [2]

Do not use a VPN or another tool to hide your location. If a location check is wrong, ask support for help. A working account does not mean you can play from every place. [2]

Does the Mode Change What You Can Predict?

Read the rules for the chosen game and coin mode. Check how play starts, how results count and how features work.

A sweepstakes mode sets entry and prize rules. It does not make random results easy to predict. When each result is independent and the odds stay the same, recent results do not make another result due. [4]

Some features change as play goes on. Follow that game’s rules for those changes. Our RNG guide explains how random numbers become game results.

Check Which Mode You Are Using

  1. Name the Coin

Read the GC or SC label before you start.

  2. Check Its Purpose

GC are for entertainment. SC follow the sweepstakes rules.

  3. Follow Its Rules

For an SC prize request, check which play counts, who can take part, and the account checks.

The way a game looks does not tell you its coin mode or whether SC qualify for a prize.

How Does the Prize Process Differ?

GC cannot be redeemed, so they do not enter the prize process. SC won through play that meets our rules may be used for a prize request.

SC generally need one-time qualifying play first. That is play which counts under our rules. A game, offer or region may set a different requirement. Results can change the balance. [1]

We also check the account, ID and prize rules. Daily requests start at 50 eligible SC and have a 9,550 SC maximum. Other play and state limits apply. You do not need to keep playing to reach a minimum. [1]

Check the Purpose Before You Choose

At the Gate, we chose a portal only after confirming our destination and checking the requirements for its route. The portals had not changed. We simply understood what each one was for.

Make the same check before selecting a coin mode. GC are for entertainment and do not enter the prize process. SC follow the Sweepstakes Rules and may lead to a prize request when the player, play, account, and SC meet all applicable requirements.

Find the coin rules, free-entry method, player requirements, and later steps. If an important detail is missing, ask before relying on appearances.

Matching lights can show that two routes are open. They cannot tell you that both routes lead to the same place.

Your Next Step

Follow the steps from free entry to a possible prize request.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a social casino and a sweepstakes casino?

Social casino play uses coins for entertainment that cannot be exchanged for prizes. Sweepstakes play may lead to prizes when you meet its rules. Win Bonanza offers GC for fun and SC for sweepstakes play.

Can I turn Gold Coins into Sweeps Coins?

No. Gold Coins do not turn into Sweeps Coins at Win Bonanza. They are separate balances with different uses. Check the selected coin mode before each session.

Is a purchase required for sweepstakes play?

No. You do not need to make a purchase to get SC or enter our sweepstakes. Buying GC does not improve your chances of winning. Read our Sweepstakes Rules for free entry instructions.

Does using SC guarantee a prize?

No. An SC prize request must meet our play, account, identity and prize rules. Your SC balance is not the same as an approved prize.

Is Win Bonanza a social casino, or a sweepstakes casino?

Both. It depends which coins you use to play. Win Bonanza is a social casino when you play with Gold Coins for fun, but it can also be a sweepstakes casino if you switch to SC mode and play under our Sweepstakes Rules.
